Festival Team goes clubbing

A couple of weeks ago Angela, one of our wonderful volunteers, invited the team for a secret supper club at her home here in Streatham.
We all arrived, each bringing a bottle of wine. Ben had gone a step further and came with mint infused rum. The perfect ingredient for a pre dinner Mojito!
Mojitos finished, we all sat down in Angela’s cozy dining room, where we were served our starter; red kidney bean cakes with mustard and yoghurt chutney
The spices in the bean cakes were perfectly offset by the tasty, mild yogurt, and served with home made, very hot, green pickled chilies. Just delicious!
The main course was an Indian Feast to say the least. There was fish curry, spicy chicken curry with spinach, cauliflower & potato curry, homestyle lentils, rice, naan bread and chutneys. Such rich flavors and just perfectly cooked. We all had second helpings….and some even third…!
We all thought we didn’t have room for dessert…..until we saw the dessert!
The most beautiful Pavlova I have ever seen, with fluffy meringue and decorated with strawberries and sliced kiwi. It almost seemed a shame to cut into it, it was so pretty, but cut into it we did. Just the perfect amount of cream and meringue. A beautiful ending to a fantastic meal.
Angela was the perfect hostess the whole evening, and was helped in the kitchen by her lovely daughter.
Even though we are all part of the same team, working on the Food Festival, some of us didn’t know each other that well. The evening really brought us together as a team and as friends. A supper club is such a great way to come together over good food. It is an opportunity to connect with new people and also to meet up with some old friends.
If you are interested in hosting a supper club in your home during festival week, check out “Festival Events” for more details. And if you’re lucky, Angela will decide to host one as well, in which case I would advise booking as quickly as you can! Her food really is spectacular!
